Poem of the Week - 'Opportunities' by Kristin Dimitrova

Opportunities

Where should I go
what should I do
where should I go
what should I do
so stuck in my skin
I grope for a zipper
and out of the open
jagged slit
I will slip out,
all muscles.
My skin will keep saying
good morning while going to work
for another couple years at least.

Major European poet Kristin Dimitrova is known for light, simple, playful language and 'Opportunities' showcases this spectacularly. I love the frantic flow and use of direct language to evoke startling images.

From Dimitrova's collection My Life in Squares by Smokestack Books.
