Mairi MacInnes published her first book of poetry, Splinters: Twenty-Six Poems (1953) as one of a series printed by The School of Art at the University of Reading. More than sixty years later, Two Rivers Press, based in the same town, has brought together a selection from her poetry of seven decades and added to it a gathering of poems written since the appearance of her most recent collection in 2007.

Amazing Memories of Childhood etc. makes available once more in its first section a representative range of her poetry, much of it set in the USA, where she lived for nearly thirty years. In the second, it reveals with the new title sequence and other recent poems that her touch is as sure as ever. The vividness of her rhythmically vital work once again reminds us what a fine poet she is and has been for such a long time.
