About Applied Mathematics by Dan Simpson:

Dan is a poet who likes to play around with form. He likes to deconstruct and get a bit meta with the mental algorithms that sit beneath a poem. That means he enjoys a bit of rhyming from time to time. Many of the pieces included here started life as performance pieces. Many were commissioned for a variety of public projects  and unlike many a debut poet Dan has given this collection a thorough test drive around the live circuit.  Dan has a style and voice that is enjoyably geeky in its references and humour and the result is a collection of poems that are clever but accessible.

Dan Simpson is a spoken word poet and compère, poetry projects and events organiser, workshop facilitator and writer. He was Canterbury’s Laureate 2013-14, Poet in Residence at Waterloo Station for Transport for London, and Bexley’s poet for Southbank Centre’s London Lines project. He co-produces and co-hosts regular spoken word events Stand Up & Slam and The Anti-Slam, and is the resident host of The Word House. His poetry has featured on the BBC and London Underground, and in publications from Sidekick Books and in Fuselit journal.
