Hanef Bhamjee was born in South Africa and was a member of
the ANC and its military wing. He fled the country during the ANC arrests of 1965 and became a solicitor in Cardiff, and the focus and leader of WAAM and, later, ASA. He was awarded an OBE for services to race relations, WAAM and the charity and voluntary sector.
