ìWhat happens when you die?î Lewis asks.

Marilyn hardly knows how to answer her son, or how to answer any of the questions suddenly triggered by her fatherís death. Her new friend Hilary is an unfailing supportÖbut as the women grow closer, something completely unexpected shakes both families.

Steeped in love, death, lust, childhood, parenthood, obsession ñ and the Wizard of Oz ñ this two-part novel follows Marilyn and Hilary through the most transforming six days of their lives.

Only after floating out on the lucid clarity of Patricia Debneyís prose do you realise gradually what unsettling depths have opened up beneath you - the ruthlessness of love and loss and need, the distances between us, men and women, and the terribly porous borders of identity. The mystery at the heart of Losing You is one inside us all, and Patricia Debney leads us into the labyrinth with grace and subtlety.
