Meet the drunken Mexicans, the gorgeous girls, the desperate drug-dealer, and the snoring dog.....as Roger Harvey describes his first reading-tour across America with an open spirit, a searching eye, and a ruthless candour--and realises he is also on a journey of poignant self-discovery. Funny, sad, surprising, and true, Poet on the Road is a writer’s notebook, intimate travelogue, and a chronicle of experiences both commonplace and extraordinary. It also features a selection of the poems which have made Roger Harvey a popular voice on both sides of the Atlantic.

Roger Harvey was born in Newcastle in 1953 and has written in a wide variety of media from novels to radio commercials. In addition to his American adventures, his activities as a performance poet have taken him around Britain and, more recently, to Germany where he has been guest reader in various Universities. He has won a number of literary prizes and creative awards. His published works include the novels Percy the Pigeon, The Silver Spitfire, and A Woman who Lives by the Sea, the award-winning poetry cassette-book Northman’s Prayer, and the subsequent collections Raising the Titanic and Divided Attention. He wrote and directed the film of his original play Guinevere-Jennifer; his latest stage works, the farce Money! Money! Money! and the pantomime Sam Seal’s Undersea Adventure have toured the North of England; and his poems, stories, and articles continue to be published in British and American magazines.
