David Perman is better known as a supporter of poetry than a poet. He was one of the founders of the still-vigorous Ware Poets in 1991 and in the same year established Rockingham Press to publish Hertfordshire local history and poetry. Rockingham has introduced individual collections by more than 120 poets as well as anthologies of Turkish and Persian poetry.
Publication of his own poetry began in 1997 with The Buildings (dealing mainly with his Islington childhood) from Acumen Publications and branched out into A Wasp on the Stair, from Rockingham.
Parallel with his poetic interests, David is the local historian of Ware, Hertfordshire. His memoir, Islington Born and Bred: A Memoir of Childhood, is released in November.
