The striking humour and resilience of Allan's characters, often at odds with social and political trends, beset by unemployment and harsh circumstances, shines through in this collection of three of his plays.

In On The Road Again, two tramps (one a compulsive cheat, the other a hapless liar) receive a notice to evict them from their derelict caravan home.

Redundant miners kidnap the Secretary of State for Wales in The Best Years of Our Lives.

Cradle to the Grave chronicles the comic and painful misadventures of a patient named Nye Bevan, mistakenly transferred from a private to an NHS hospital, which, for all intents and purposes, has been closed.

A considerable figure on the drama scene in Wales in the eighties and nineties, Lawrence Allan has written eighteen plays in the past fourteen years. Inspired by the gritty, lively and often comic street life of his home town Pontypridd, he says, "I love it. It's my home, and I hope that my plays are firmly rooted there, and at the same time absolutely universal, so that the themes and situations they explore are meaningful to people irrespective of who they are or where they are from." He is currently working on commissions for the BBC and for Made in Wales theatre company.
