The longed-for improvement in the health services of the United Kingdom demands new hospitals, more doctors, nurses and other resources. It is widely acknowledged that the NHS has been under-resourced for several decades and there is an urgent need for a programme of capital and service development. Why then do those who claim to support the NHS oppose developments under the private finance initiative? This report demonstrates many of our deeply held concerns.
