MPT (Modern Poetry in Translation) is a tri-annual poetry magazine that publishes poetry from all over the world in English translation.
Founded in 1965 by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort it has consistently published the very best of world poetry in the very best translations, and has introduced a number of famous poets and iconic translations to the English-speaking world. MPT prints work of unsurpassed range and quality. Over the last decade it has featured over 90 languages, 463 poets and 349 translators. Boyd Tonkin in The Independent wrote that MPT "has a rare and precious talent". The Sunday Times called it a "necessity". There is no other magazine that has the same reach and the same consistent quality of poetry.
In April 2013 MPT is relaunching: a handsome rebrand which looks back to the strong designs of the 1960s and 70s with bible paper and a commissioned cover illustration for each issue by young international artists. The first issue is illustrated by Perienne Christian and features poems on Mexico’s Narco Wars, new Rilke translations, poetry from Peru, Argentina, Italy, France and a special focus on three prize-winning Dutch poets. Future focuses on Romania, Brazil, Russia, Korea and Poland are planned for the next couple of years. In 2015 MPT will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a global fiesta of fantastic poetry, art and imagination.
