Cabinets of curiosity have a long and illustrious history stretching back to the royal court of Rudolf II in Prague, and to the Wunderkammers maintained by amateur enthusiasts during the Enlightenment. Regional museums often became the beneficiaries of the latter, particularly during the 19th Century when many collectors were local clergymen encouraged to travel widely in a missionary capacity.

These poems are inspired by items from the collection of The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury, bringing to life the curious voices of objects with a deftness of touch enhanced by the accompanying drawings.
