Helen Ashley’s poetry arises from her lifelong love of manipulating words, along with a philosophical contemplation of the natural world and human interaction with it. She grew up in Hampshire and has had a varied career as a primary school teacher and adult basic education tutor. Since 1982, she has considered South Devon to be her home and now lives in Totnes with her husband, Mike Hannaford.
