Diary of a Short-Sighted Adolescent reviewed in the Guardian!
Diary of a Short-Sighted Adolescent by Mircea Eliade has been reviewed in the Guardian by Nick Lezard, who calls it 'an Adrian Mole from 1920s Romania'.
A fictional diary, written from the perspective of a fifteen year-old who wants to prove to his teachers that he is not as mediocre as his other students. But, as Lezard points out, 'the joke behind Adrian Mole and, indeed, most fictional diaries, is that in trying to seem wiser and more grown-up, the narrator inadvertently reveals truths that are withheld from his or her own scrutiny.'
