Poem of the Week - "Wave" by Robert Powell
A wave came through the house;
ravenous, sweeping
all we owned or wished
after that touch in the hallway
and the faces of those we knew
before and then,
away.
After it the place was still,
still was.
Through the open door
onto the dry red carpet
your cat Bella stepped in from the rain.
No thing had been disturbed,
nothing was the same.
"Wave" appears in Robert Powell's excellent new collection, All, just out this month from Valley Press. Get 'em while they're hot.
If you happen to be in York tonight, why not head down to the launch event at Waterstones? Alternatively, there's another chance to hear Robert reading from All at The Orangery* in Wakefield on the 29th of March. Details of both can be found here.
( * You should go. It's lovely.)
