Collection: Cinnamon Press

Cinnamon Press is the fastest growing small press in Wales, publishing about twenty-five titles a year in fiction, poetry and occasional non-fiction.

Wales has a strong literary tradition and Cinnamon aims to contribute to that by bringing in authors from around the world – Italy, Finland, Sweden, Bosnia, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, China and the USA to name a few, as well as those from Britain and Ireland, with a strong core of Welsh writers.

Cinnamon takes great pride in being independent and innovative, taking risks with high quality unusual projects: the multi-genre two-part memoirs, Three-three, two-two, five-six and Discussing Wittgenstein by Ann Drysdale; the genre-defying epistolary Felicity and Barbara Pym by Harrison Solow; the bi-lingual experimental poetry of Rhys Trimble, Keinc; and I Spy Pinhole Eye, Philip Gross’s poetry in response to Simon Denison’s pinhole photography, which won the 2010 Wales Book of the Year Award.

Several titles have won or been shortlisted for major literary awards, including those by debut poets or novelists, many of whom come to Cinnamon through its literary competitions for novelists, poets and short story writers.

Who's who on your team?

Jan Fortune is our commissioning editor - she deals with launches and promotions. We also have Adam Craig who manages our Liquorice Fish Books imprint and is also our IT guru. Michelle Pashley is our officer manager. Seth Fortune is our intern!

Have you got any office dogs/cats/animals?

Freyja is the Cinnamon cat - she really makes all the decisions (unless it turns out to be a bad one).

What's your nearest bookshop?

Our nearest bookshops are Ben Bost (the old post office) in Blaenau Ffestiniog which specialises in second hand but also does book launches with us - Elin is amazing. Browser's Porthmadog is a fantastic indie bookshop run by Sian.

If you could meet one author or poet, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

Only one poet? It has to be C D Wright. She died far too young - took huge risks with form but was so unprenentious - just sheer unassuming brilliance. She was constantly challenging her own writing - some is filmic, some place oriented. Her poetry is ambitious, restless and defies easy categorisation. Deeply moral, deeply humane, always retaining a sense of awe and never giving in to cynicism.

Are you on social media? If so, which one are you most active on?

Hate social media, but it feels like a must to some extent. We can be found on Twitter and Facebook.
