Gill Learner grew up on the outskirts of Birmingham and now lives in Reading. She began writing poetry in 2001 since when her work has been widely published in anthologies, and journals such as Acumen, The Keats–Shelley Review, The North, Poetry News and Smiths Knoll; it has also been read on Radio 3. In 2008 she won the Poetry Society’s Hamish Canham prize. Her first collection, The Agister’s Experiment, was published by Two Rivers Press at the start of 2011. She has been successful in various competitions including winning first prizes in the Buxton (2011 and 2012) and The English Association Fellows’ Prize 2012 with a poem about Charles Dickens. She participates regularly in the open mic at Reading’s Poets’ Café where she has twice been guest poet.
