Collection: root-catalog > Root > Grist Books

Grist publishes anthologies of the best new writing from around the world in English. The philosophy of Grist is to place emerging writers alongside established writers in order to raise their profile and help them establish the first step to becoming professional writers. With this in mind we have previously published poets Simon Armitage, Ian Mcmillan and Lemn Sissay and prose writers Helen Simpson, John Boyne(author of the Boy in The Striped Pyjamas) Melvin Burgess, Toby Litt and Alexei Sayle. They have all kindly donated poems and stories for the previous collections. Grist’s latest publication is an anthology of poetry called A Complicated Way of Being Ignored. It features 36 original, previously unpublished poems, from both established and emerging writers. Our anthologies are given away free to selected libraries, HE institutions and literary agents, making this a unique publishing venture. Grist does not need to consider commercial pressures so we are free to do things differently. The published anthologies consist of our competition winners alongside specially commissioned work from established writers. Grist is interested in fresh new voices with something to say. The first Grist Anthology of New Writing was published in 2009. Grist is supported entirely by The University of Huddersfield. We would like to express our gratitude for their continuing support.
