Hazel Frankel is an artist, calligrapher and teacher. She lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, the city where she was born. She holds a PhD in English (Creative Writing) (Sheffield Hallam University), and MAs in Fine Arts and English from the University of the Witwatersrand. A collection of poetry, Drawing from Memory, was published by Cinnamon Press (2007), and a collection of true stories of Holocaust survivors is collected in Memoirs: Our Stories; Our Lives. Her first novel, Counting Sleeping Beauties (Jacana Media) was runner-up for the EU Fiction Award in 2007. Her second, Illuminating Love (Jacana Literary Foundation), is out now.
