Hugh Underhill grew up in Sussex, partly during World War II, the experience of which much affected him. He lectured in English at universities in Hong Kong and Australia, and has published many critical articles and reviews. In Australia he co-edited the literary journal Helix. He is the author of five collections of poetry, including Found Wanting, The World We Make and The Shape of Days, and a collection of stories, The War is Over. He currently edits The Robert Bloomfield Society Newsletter.
