Sharon Olds is an American poet. Born in San Francisco, her first book, Satan Says (1980), received the city's inaugural Poetry Center Award. Her second, The Dead and the Living, won the National Book Critics Circle Award. The Father was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize, and The Unswept Room was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Stag's Leap won the 2012 TS Eliot Prize.

Sharon Olds teaches Creative Writing at NYU. She also helped to found the NYU workshop program for residents of Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island, and for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. She lives in New Hampshire and in New York City.
