Collection: Verene Shepherd

Verene Shepherd is a lecturer in Caribbean History at the University of the West Indies, Mona. Her research work has covered studies in the Indian presence in Jamaica and the Jamaican livestock pens and she has published several articles on each of these topics. The position of women in Caribbean history and society has been a particular concern and she is a member of the Women and Development Studies Group of the UWI and participates in the teaching of courses on women and gender. She is co-editor with Hilary McD. Beckles of Caribbean Slave Society and Economy: a Student Reader (1991). She was a recipient in 1991 of the Dubois-Mandela-Rodney Fellow at the Centre for Afro-American and African studies at the University of Michigan and is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society.
