Feyyaz Fergar was born in Istanbul and came to Britain, via Paris, in 1940. He worked as a translator for the Turkish Service of the BBC, becoming its head before retirement. His stories about wartime Britain gained him the Turkish Language Academy Prize and he translated many poets into Turkish, including TS Eliot. A Talent for Shrouds was his first collection written originally in English. He died in 1993.
