Banipal is the ever-open window on contemporary literature from the Arab world, showcasing today's Arab authors in English translation, from wherever they are writing and publishing. An independent and innovative magazine, Banipal's three issues a year, continuous since Spring 1998, present both established and emerging authors through poems, short stories or excerpts from novels.
Each issue has a main theme and from time to time there are regular features on LITERARY INFLUENCES of major authors, a TRAVELLING TALE, and an INTERVIEW, plus book reviews and photo-reports of literary events. Each issue is well illustrated with author photographs and the full colour covers often feature prominent Arab artists.
“Not merely a bridge between two cultures but . . . a laboratory that illuminates the styles of modern Arabic writings” – Adonis
