I, from Nothing was originally published in Portuguese as Eu, do Nada, the title, a literal translation to English. It is based on the true story of a family who named their farm “Nothing” and who have lived in a so-named place for over two centuries. It is the story of Luísa, made of Nothing, born Matilde in 1911. It is the story of a country intersecting in the rural daily life of a large house of wine and bread, surviving invasions, cyclones, dictatorships, ghosts and others animals, surviving the pain and the loss of time after time. Will Nothing survive Luísa? Or will Luísa become a replica of Máxima, the Lady who lives in the towering distance of the second floor of Casa do Nada?
