A new collection by this well-loved writer of children's poetry.

Selected by the Poetry Book Society as a choice for The Children's Poetry Book Shelf.

Gerard Benson is a poet, story-teller, singer and performer. Always commited to bringing poetry to new audiences, he has worked extensively in theatre, radio, television and film. His acclaimed collection To Catch an Elephant was shortlisted for the CLIPE award. Earlier collections include the outstanding anthology, This poem Doesn't Rhyme which won the Signal Poetry Award in 1991, and Evidence of Elephants, which was nominated for the Carnegie Medal.

He has worked extensively with children of all ages, in schools, libraries and writing centres.

His warm humanity and exuberance, and his talent for inspiring young writers, make him much in demand both for workshops and performance.

Praise for To Catch An Elephant

'A refreshingly original collection. The poems enchant, astonish, linger in the memory. The collection should be in the classrooms and libraries of primary and secondary schools. The accomplished black and white illustrations are witty and eyecatching.' - School Library Association

'His lines pulsate with the rhythms of real voices.' - Gowri Ramnarayan

'Funny and sad, witty and sinester, all of it good.' - Books for Keeps

'A rare and wonderful selection. Gerard Benson can make you giggle helplessly one moment, catch your breath the next and then cry the next.' Carousel
