We are out of time in so many ways. Global heating is projected to reach 1.5 °C between 2030 and 20521, a temperature threshold that, if crossed, will include devastating droughts, precipitation deficits, tropical cyclones and irreversible loss of ice sheets, amongst other cataclysms. If we head up to 2 °C, it's estimated that 13% of global terrestrial land will undergo dramatic transformation. Now is the time to assess our actions and to read, write and share: to pass on the most important message of all. The empathy of the reader cannot be understated, nor can the potential of a single poem. This anthology engages with the power of language to ask questions, subvert and expand reader perception. Out of Time is a complex love letter to the earth; it is a manifesto to the craft and power of poetry; it is a call to action.
