James Brockway was the foremost translator of Dutch poetry into English. For this work he received the prestigious Martinus Nijhoff Prize in 1966 and was created a knighthood in the Netherlands. He published three collections of his own poetry in English, The Brightness in Between being the last one, published in 2000 a few months before he died in The Hague.
