This is Just to Say – Poems from the Bethlem & Maudsley Hospital School – edited by Wendy French and Anne-Marie Fyfe.

This Bethlem anthology offers more proof that poetry is the property of everyone and that the imagination is the most thrilling human vehicle of all. Gathered here is an impressive range of young voices, each singing its own private song, but also merging with the others to create a mighty chorus of song.
Billy Collins , U.S. Poet Laureate 2001-2003

Poems by pupils at the Bethlem Hospital School, illustrated with black-and-white drawings and cartoons by the pupils themselves. The Bethlem Hospital School was established to provide education to all young people of school age who are admitted to either Bethlem or Maudsley Hospitals. The school has grown, developed and changed over the years, and is now situated in the grounds of the Bethlem Hospital, where a varied and stimulating curriculum is offered to children who have had their education disrupted by hospitalisation.

The Editors: Wendy French is former head of the school and now works in a freelance capacity as a facilitator for creative writing in healthcare settings. Anne-Marie Fyfe runs one of London’s most popular poetry-reading venues, teaches creative-writing throughout the country and has published three collections of poetry.
