Fierce, poignant and funny, Washing the Dead is a collection of interlinked short stories, where a minor character in one story becomes the main one in another. A central theme throughout is the breakdown of the family unit: there are abortions, secrets and lies, self-deceptions and moments of revelation.

“Gripping, alive and persuasive... The detail is telling and the story rich... everything’s interesting here.”
Tessa Hadley

Shelagh Weeks currently lives in Cardiff, and works as a lecturer in Creative Writing at Cardiff University. Up Close, her debut novel, was published by Cinnamon Press in 2009, while her story ‘Mint Sauce’ was the title short story of the 2007 anthology of the same name (Cinnamon, 2008).
