New & Selected Poems is James McAuley's tenth poetry collection and his first with the Dedalus Press. With an introduction by Paula Meehan.

"His style comes together most satisfyingly in 'Sixteen Nocturnes', written in 2003, which reminded me of Geoffrey Hill, of all people, or Browning's mad monk gibbering away in his Spanish cloister. It's impossible to engage fully with several decades of work in a short review, but suffice to say that where all too often McAuley has been absent, now at least he is back on the map"
David Wheatley, Sunday Tribune

James McAuley was born in Dublin in 1936. From 1968 until his retirement in 1998, he taught poetry and poetics, literature and Irish Studies courses at Lycoming College and Eastern Washington University in the US, where he was also the founding director of their Creative Writing Programs. From 1979 until 1999, he directed the EWU Summer Writing Workshops at the Irish Writer’s Centre, Dublin. From 1993-97, he was Director of EWU Press. His poetry and prose have been published in Ireland, England, Canada, and the US since 1954; he is represented in a number of anthologies, including The Penguin Book of Irish Verse and The Great Book of Ireland. James McAuley lives in Ballyknockan, County Wicklow, with his wife Deirdre and their son, Daniel.
